Somalia’s old stadium reconstruction to conclude early next year

The reconstruction of Somalia’s oldest football site, Stadium Banadir is due to be completed by early next year, Engineers revealed on Sunday.

 

Engineer Abdi Salaan Mohamed Mahmoud who is leading the rebuilding work on Sunday told reporters he is very hopeful that the reconstruction work will be concluded by March 2009.

“Now I can say that we have done at least 50% of the reconstruction of Stadium Banadir and we hope to successfully complete within 4 months from now” Engineer Abdi Salaan Mohamed Mahmoud told reporters on Sunday.

The stadium rebuilding was started in late July this year and it is for the first time that the stadium gets reconstruction since early 1980s after Somalia won the `FIFA funded project “Win in Africa with Africa artificial football truf”

Built in 1956, Stadium Banadir was the first international-style football site constructed in Somalia.

“I was one of the players who exhibited on the stadium after the end of its construction in 1956 and I would be much happier than ever to see it repaired” said Abudllahi Yusuf Ali Baskuwaale, currently in his 70s.
