President of the confederation of African football (CAF) Issa Hayatou has expressed his condolence to the people of Somalia and the East African Football community following the death of Somalia's first national team captain Mohamed Qalaf Aden Shangole.
The Somali Football Federation announced on Tuesday the death of Aden
Shangole in Mogadishu.
"I received with sadness the news of the death of Mohamed Qalaf Aden
Shangole, an icon and legend of the Somalia game who not only was the country’s
first national team captain but went onto inspire many more players and Somalis
with his contribution to the game behind his playing days.
"On behalf of CAF and the continental family of football, I wish to
express our deepest sympathy and condolence to you, to everyone at the Somali
Football Association, CECAFA community and most importantly the family of Aden
Shangole, his friends and loved ones” Hayatou said in his message of condolence
to the Somali Football Federation and CECAFA secretary General Nicholas Musonye.
"Kindly convert our message that the African football community
remembers this legend of our game and stands by the family in this period of
pain and mourning” the CAF chief said in his condolence message.
