The Cecafa Kagame club cup currently under way in the war-devastated Sudanese regions of North Darfur and south Gordofan has reached its quarter finals with Djibouti's Ports FC among 8 strong teams who made their way to the quarter finals.

Today ‘Tuesday’ is a rest day according to the schedules of the tournament. Uganda’s Express FC will take on APR (Rwanda) on Wednesday 26th of June. The defeated will head home back, while the winner will qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament. Likewise Al-Ahly Shandy will face Al-Merreikh Al Fasher on the same day.

Djibouti’s FC Ports will clash Vital’O of Burundi on the 27th of June, while Rayon of Rwanda will take on URA of Uganda on the same day. However it is the first time in history that the Ports FC of Djibouti makes such tangible results in the CECAFA Kagame Club cup.

This comes only 8 months after the young age president and FIFA commissioner Souleiman Hassan Waberi took office and vowed to make sudden changes in terms of the development of football in Djibouti.

Mr Souleiman who has long time been respected by his people as the ‘backbone’ of Djibouti football had lent a forceful commitment in the promotion of football in Djibouti for the past 15 years he has been serving as a deputy secretary General and was the driving machine of football in the small horn of African country.

"I congratulate the Ports FC on reaching the quarterfinals and I hope them go through to the finals or win the trophy—I and My committee are committed to building football in Djibouti from the bottom and we have already started implementing of most of our development programs including some that have never been done in Djibouti such as the launching of the first ever professional beach soccer tournament” the president expressed during conversation with CECAFA media.

Meanwhile, the president praised CECAFA secretary General Nicholas Musonye for taking the tournament to Darfur in a bid to encourage peace and integration in the war-ravaged regions of Sudan.

"Musonye is playing a key role in the regional peace campaign—I know he had also announced that CECAFA intends to take its tournaments to Somalia to help the rebuilding of peace and stability through football and on the behalf of my Djibouti football Federation I fully welcome the very constructive idea and we are alongside with Mr. Musonye in his attempts to take CECAFA competitions to Somalia” President Souleiman Hassan Waberi emphasized.
