The
former defending champions, FC Ports have finished in the 3rd place
of the competition, but will represent the country in the upcoming CECAFA
Kagame club cup to be held in war-ravaged Darfur and south Gordofan regions of
Sudan where CECAFA wants to encourage peace and stability through the football
for peace regional tournament according to Secretary General Nicholas Musonye.
The club’s
fans both in the capital Djibouti and the south Ali Sabeih region have been
holding ceremonies to celebrate the victory approached by their club who didn’t
win a trophy since 2007. Ali Sabeih is a region whose people are known for
their football loving and has been a key region in the country’s regional
competitions.
Djibouti
football federation president Souleiman Hassan Waberi congratulated the club
for its victory and praised the ASAS/ Djibouti Telecom FC authorities for their
commitment to the country’s football development and the role they had played
in the revival of women’s competitions and the implementation of the first ever
professional beach soccer competition in the country.
"We are
concluding the country’s division A and Division B leagues, but that doesn’t mean
we have done our work---a long way is ahead of us until we have seen our
country become one of the frontrunner countries of the world’s football” the
young age president Mr. Souleiman Hassan Waberi told the closing ceremony of
the Division A league.
Djibouti
is a growing football nation in the horn of Africa region and there have been
more tangible development activities since the long-time deputy secretary
General and CAF referee instructor took over the Djibouti FA leadership on 10thof November last year. Mr. Souleiman who also served as FIFA commissioner for
the past several years is respected in Djibouti as the backbone of the country’s
football.
