The Somali National football team nicknamed ‘Ocean stars’ is currently under huge preparations for the upcoming 2014 FIFA world cup preliminary qualifier clash against neighboring Ethiopia.

The team under goes morning and afternoon training sessions from Saturday to Wednesday each week, while they rest on Thursdays and Fridays, according to their coach Abdi Farah Ali.

“We give them technical and physical training sessions—we do our trainings two and a half hours in the morning and two and a half hours in the afternoon” Coach Abdi Farah Ali told the secretary general.

The team under goes its training sessions at the ill-equipped football field in the Somali Political Science University where Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab visited and addressed them on Saturday.

“We know you are working in a very volatile country where we have no good facilities, but we want you to do your best since you have embraced the name and the flag of Somalia on your back” the secretary general told the team members during his address on Saturday morning.

“You are going to a FIFA world cup qualifier match in November, so you have to be fully prepared for the two leg competition, because such competition is one of the most prestigious matches that a national team takes part” the secretary general told the Ocean stars group.

Insecurity in the country prevents the SFF from hosting international competitions in the country and as a result, the first leg of the qualifier competition will take place in either Djibouti or Nairobi where the SFF will use as a home country on November 11, while in the second clash Somalia will be guest for Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on 15th of November.

After the two legs of the FIFA world cup preliminary qualifier clash against Ethiopia the Ocean stars will head to Qatar where they will take part in the All Arab games which will kick off in Doha on December 9.

According to Somali Football Federation, the Somali national team will have to train in Doha for 20 days before the start of the All Arab games.
