Hiiraan defeats Lower Shabelle, as Banaadir holds Sool

As, Somalia’s 18th regional football tourney for peace and development is interestingly under way at Mire Aware football Stadium in Puntland’s capital Garowe some of the most hotly-contested matches were held on Sunday afternoon, with the Lower Shabele region becoming the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.


As usual two matches are played each day, and Hiiraan defeated its Lower Shabelle opponents by 3-2 in the first match which was officiated by International referee Nur Mohamed Abdulle, while 1st and 2nd assistant referees were Salah Omar Abokar himself an international referee and Ali Hussein Malak.

 

Abdullahi Osman Hajji was the fourth official, while Bashiir Mahmoud Geesey Was the commissioner of the hotly-contested match.

 

Both regions are in the group A whose Lower Shabelle region is the first to be kicked out of the tournament. The region was formerly humiliated by a goal to nothing during the opening match against the home team of Nugaal region last Thursday.

 

Mean while, Banaadir region where the capital Mogadishu is located drew with the northern Somali region of Sool in the second match which attracted thousands of spectators including dozens of sporting and political dignitaries.

 

Although the first half of the match ended in 1-0 with the Sool team having the lead, then the game ended in a 1-1 draw during the usual 90 minute period.

 

Danish-Somali referee Hassan Aden Wiish officiated the match, while his 1st and 2nd assistants were Muktar Moalim Yusuf and Mohamed Hassan Fidow.

 

The fourth official was Aweys Nur Mohamed and Ali Abdi Mohamed was the match commissioner.

 

The Somali regional football tourney which was not held for the past 22 years is currently entitled on {REGIONAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT).

 

As shown in the below picture, healthy officials from Red Crescent society in Puntland were ready at the stadium to heal the wounded players during the matches.
