Somali Football Federation has closed down the training camp of Ocean Stars Youngsters to avoid Corona Virus risk. The U-16 Somali national squad, has been training at the National Technical Centre since late February in preparations for CECAFA U-16 championship scheduled to take place in Djibouti.

The youngsters were sent home on Thursday and were expected to return to camp on Saturday, but they were later informed to remain in doors until further notice. So far a single case of the pandemic has been found in Somalia meaning that the disease doesn’t have more impacts on the country, but the SFF decided to close down the camp to avoid more risks.

Since football competitions in the country were halted on March 19, Somali Football Federation has been in consultations with the government to seek permission to resume football competitions in a way that can be compatible with the government’s Corona virus protection policy. The SFF requested the government through the minister for youth and sports Honourable Khadija Mohamed Diriye, to allow the resumption of football competitions in the country without spectators.

Meanwhile, Somali Football Federation will on Tuesday launch football development courses including coaching, refereeing and administration in the city of Beledweyn in the Hir-shabelle State. The courses were scheduled before the Covid 19 outbreak in the world and the SFF says the government’s Corona Virus protection policy will still apply during the courses.
