CAF Trains media officers from its affiliate states

THE CONFEDERATION of African Football {CAF} has inaugurated a capacity building seminar for media officers from its member states.


The four-day seminar which was launched at the CAF excellence centre in Mbankomo outside the Cameroonian capital Yaounde on Monday is the first of its kind ever organized by the continental football governing body for media officers as part of CAF’s policy to empower African football journalism.


President of the Cameroonian football normalization committee Owono Joseph who first addressed at the launch ceremony of the seminar welcomed delegates and praised CAF for turning much attention to educating media people.



He said that the current digital media and as well as the social media were playing a key role in the football marketing.


CAF executive committee member, Mr. Anjoring Moucharaf Ayodele who officialy inaugurated the event said that it was part of CAF strategy to give all media officers from member states the capacity to be able to promote football in their own countries and as well as at CAF level.


"This is the revolution of CAF president Issa Hayatou to create a better football image in Africa and this seminar is part of the new revolution” said Mr. Anjoring Moucharaf Ayodele during an interview with CECAFA Media after his opening speech.


"CAF is planning to continue organizing such education seminar for media officers in order to build their capacity and we want the media officers to workd harder to make changes in this field” he continued.


Deputy chief of FIFA communications department, Mr. Hans Hultman added that to assemble media officers at such high profile seminar was a great initiative by CAF which he said will also create some kind of cooperation and friendship amongst media officers from across the country.


During his lecture, CAF Media director Mr. Junior Binyam, said that football was so powerful element in the world, taking Somalia as an example, because Somalia was experiencing volatile situation.


"How football is active in Somalia can be a sign for the power of football and how it promotes in certain situations” said CAF Media director Mr. Junior Binyam adding that Somali FA has its own website updated with the latest much results and standings available on the site.


Some key lectures taken in the inaugural day of the seminar included: media accreditation process, the work and the importance of CAF media channel, Network of CAF press organization, general principles of organizational communication, internal and external communication, press relations, targets and writing press releases.
