According to the statement by SFF secretary General Abdi
Qani Said Arab, the development plans for the southern regions were approved by
the Somali Football Federation executive committee during its meeting at its
headquarters in the capital Mogadishu.
"The development programs we have drawn for southern
regions will compose of sports administrations courses, refereeing and coaching
courses, these giant tasks are schedule to be accomplished some time before mid
this year” Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab
noted in his Monday’s Press statement.
He said the significant courses will gather scores of football
volunteers from several regions in the zone 1 area, south of the country, but
the recently-elected chairman of the football committee in Lower Jubba region Mr.
Burhan Mahmoud Hassan accepted to host the development courses in the
provincial capital Kismayo, just 500 kilometres south of the capital Mogadishu.
"In one respect this program is part of our policy to
encourage peace and public integration through football for peace and in the
other respect they are part of our ‘spread
the football’ initiative which has so far been carried out in different
regions” the statement added.
"Due to
insecurity, SFF activities were indirectly taking place in some southern
regions and that is why all regions were able to take part in the regional
football tournament for peace and development we held in the Puntland state of
Somalia in December 2010” Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab noted in his
statement on Monday.
This will be the first such football-related courses to
be organized in the zone 1 regions for nearly ten years, according to Somali FA
secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab who mentioned in his statement that due
to insecurity the SFF wasn’t able to directly reach the regions before time.
