CECAFA Kagame club cup draws in Khartoum

The draws for the 39th Edition of CECAFA-Kagame club cup championship will be held in Khartoum, Sudan on Tuesday, CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye of Kenya announced after making a second visit to Al Fasher in North Darfur over the weekend.


Thirteen clubs from East and Central Africa converge in the North and Southern Sudan States to participate in a two week contest in which the World will watch keenly. The CECAFA delegation led by General Secretary Musonye first visited North Darfur three weeks ago and over the weekend made a last dash to Al Fasher and Kadugli in South Gordofan where the event is expected to be held.

The Central Government of Sudan in Khartoum and the Governors of North Darfur and South Gordofan have put everything in place to ensure that the event takes place in the two states.



Al Fasher Stadium in the far North of Sudan on the boarder of Chad has enjoyed relative peace for the last five years and the decision by Sudan FA and CECAFA to take the event there has excited many people in that region. In the past three weeks, CECAFA- Kagame tournament has seen the State Government renovate its two main Stadia and renovated five training grounds. A flurry of activities being coordinated by Governor Osman Mohammed Kebir has also seen a few Villas being put up for accommodation.

South Gordofan is also in top gear with Governor Ahmed Mohammed Haruna making last minute efforts to ensure that the 40,000 capacity ultra modern Stadium is ready for the opening ceremony.

‘’ The people of Sudan are ready for the event and we want to make one of the best Kagame cup competitions ever,” said SFA treasurer Osama Atelamanan. Kagame cup is our major club event and we must continue to make it the best regional event on the continent, he added.

Musonye who was accompanied by Kagame cup organising committee chairman Raoul Gisanura of Rwanda announced in Al Fasher that the drawing of lots will be held in Khartoum Tuesday. The thirteen clubs are:- El Merreikh Fasher, Al Shandy, Al Hilal Kadugli (Sudan), Al Nasr (S. Sudan), Yanga- holders, Simba (Tanzania), Tusker (Kenya), Elman (Som), Ports (Djibouti), Falcon (Zanzibar), APR (Rwanda), Vitalo (Burundi) and Express (Uganda).
