At its meeting in Nassau (Bahamas) yesterday which was opened by FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and chaired by FIFA Executive Committee member Mohamed bin Hammam, the FIFA Goal Bureau approved New Goal projects in American Samoa, Argentina, Aruba, Benin, Botswana, Central African Republic, China, Comoros, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, El Salvador, Ghana, Guam, Guatemala, Guinea Bissau, Japan, Korea Republic, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Maldives, Tahiti, Timor Leste, Tonga, Turkey, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
A New Goal Football project was approved for Peru. This brings the total number of projects approved since the launch of the Goal Programme in 1999 to 393.
To date, 235 projects have been completed, including 24 of them since the last meeting of the Goal Bureau in October 2008.
FIFA says its Goal Programme is "an expression of solidarity that provides the associations with tailor-made projects, such as the construction of association headquarters, technical centres, natural and artificial turf pitches and football schools. Where possible, projects are carried out in collaboration with the confederations and government authorities. The Goal Plus Programme will use additional tools (e.g. technical advice and courses) to ensure that autonomy constitutes a central pillar of the long-term development strategy implemented by each member association".
