As the first leg of Somalia’s 2010-2011 division one soccer championship is scheduled to end on Thursday, the Daalo-Airlines-owned club ‘SITT’ on Monday defeated the police club ‘Heegan’ by 1-0 in a match that was also intended to mark on the world women’s day the 8 March.

The match was so hotly-contested and as the result the first half ended in 0-0 draw, but in the last minutes of the match SITT celebrated the lone goal when its striker Abdullahi Isse Mahmoud put into Heegan’s goal in the 89th minute which died down the hopes of the opposite boys who wanted to win the one day cup for the international Women’s day 8 March.

Before the match kicked off director general of Somali Youth and sports ministry Aweys Hadaad and Somali NOC president Aden Hajji Yeberow addressed to both teams urging them to show good performance.

“We know the 8 March is tomorrow, but since two strong teams are playing today we have decided to mark this match on the precious day and celebrations of the day will continue until tomorrow” the Somali NOC president told at the stadium on Monday.

“On behalf f Somali NOC and its member federations I am sending particular thanks to the director General who is always standing beside—that is what we were waiting from such sports-loving individual” the Somali NOC president said before handing over the microphone to the director general of Somali Youth and sports ministry Aweys Hadaad.

Mr. Hadaad for his part said that despite difficulties Somali NOC and its member federations are doing a good patriotic job in the war-devastated country and that is very mentionable.

“Women are the first ever teachers of mankind and we have always to remember them, so that is why we are standing here today to play a football game marking on the international women’s day—which shows how hugely we are respecting our mothers” the director general said.

On Tuesday a very large ceremony which marking the conclusion of the 8 March celebrations will be held at Mogadishu’s municipal headquarters where the trophy of Yesterday’s match will be presented to SITT’s captain and national team striker Osman Yusuf Osman (Aayarta).
