Football coaches from Somalia’s 1st division clubs have on Friday ended a five-day coaching course as kind of preparations for the country’s top most football championship which is due to restart in the capital later on the day.

The 2010-2011 1st division football championship was halted in mid December because of the regional football tournament for peace and development which was held in the Puntland region last month.

According to a statement from Somali Football Federation the coaching course was intended to enhance the knowledge of coaches and assistant coaches from the country’s 1st division football clubs who are currently facing a harder job.

The coaching workshop was conducted by Awil Ismail Mohamed, while former International Football referee and one of the most senior refereeing instructors in Somalia Ali Mohamed Ahmed taught the coaches some of the laws of the game concerning coaching.

In a separate development, with the Somali Football Federation (SFF) describing the 2011 as the year of educational enhancement, managers of 25 football clubs in Somalia on Friday sat for a week-long club management course in Mogadishu.

“This course is the start for you, but Somali Football federation schedules to give you other courses including international level one which will be held outside Somalia before July this year” Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab told the opening ceremony of the club management course on Friday.

“As you are all aware today we have closed a coaching course and at the same time we are opening another one--This shows that we are true of our former words that Somali Football Federation will hardly work to develop the different sectors of Somali Football” the secretary General said with the club managers lauding for his speech.

For the past 20 years of lack of a functioning central government in the war-ravaged horn of African country, Somali Football Federation has been acting as Somalia’s ambassador to the international community with succeeding to raise the Somali flag over international football gatherings.
