Banaadir to play in Somali regional cup final

With Somalia’s 18th regional football tourney for peace and development getting near to conclusion, players from Banaadir region where the capital Mogadishu is located have confirmed their title to play in the final match on Friday after defeating the host team of Nugaal region on Tuesday afternoon.


The hotly-contested match ended in 1-1 draw in the usual 90-minute period of the game. How ever the Banaadir region team defeated its Nugaal region opponents by 5-3 in penalties after the extra time ended in the same draw.

 

“This was the most difficult match I officiated since the regional tournament started just two weeks ago” Somali international referee Abdi Abdulle Ahmed popularly known as (Baasaale) who officiated the match told reporters.

 

International assistant referees Mohamed Hassan Fidow and Saleh Omar Abokar were the 1st and the 2nd assistant referees of Tuesday’s match, while the match commissioner was former international referee Ali Mohamed Ahmed.

 

On Friday afternoon the Banadir regional team will play against the successor of either regions of Bari or the southern Lower Jubba region which will clash in their semifinal match on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Like wise the looser of tomorrow’s match and Nugaal will on Friday Morning compete for the third place of Somalia’s 18th regional football tournament for peace and development which is the first of its kind held in war-ravaged Somalia since 1987.
