Thousands of spectators supporting both teams were watching Monday’s hotly-contested final match of the Somali peace reviving soccer tournament which has been under way at the open ground of Somali police academy since October 6.
Very zealous fans with microphones have been roaming around the stadium to show support and encouragement for their players.
The match ended in 1-1 draw in the usual 90-minutes according to the football law with Elman FC benefiting from penalties after its goal keeper Bakiyaa caught one penalty kick from the Somali police club of Heegan and as the result Elman left with the peace reviving trophy.
President of Somali Football Federation Mr. Said Mahmoud Nur who addressed the players of both teams before kick off told them to perform politely.
“What you are playing is football for peace so I urge you to present fair play” the SFF president told the players.
Seventeen teams took part in the peace reviving tournament which was intended to encourage peace and public integration in the war-ravaged horn of African country.
After the end of the match, the director General of Somali youth and sports ministry Saaid Mohamed Abokar who was himself watching the game presented the trophy to Elman FC captain Yasin Ali Egal congratulating him on the success achieved by his club during the peace reviving tourney.
