The Somali Football Federation (SFF) has welcomed the re-appointment of the country’s Sports Minister Khadija Mohamed Diriye over the weekend.

The President of the SFF Said Mahmoud Nur who talked to the media on Monday said that his federation was very jubilant at the minister’s re-appointment.

“On behalf of the federation, I welcome the move by the Prime Minister to re-appoint Mrs. Khadija Mohamed Diriye, the most active and hard-working Sports Minister this country has ever had,” Mr. Said Mahmoud Nur stated.

“I am very grateful to the minister for her past work and I hope that she will maintain such good sports policy in Somalia,” the FA boss added during his Monday’s press conference in Mogadishu.

Mrs. Khadija has been leading the Somali Sports Ministry since the former minister Suleiman Olad Roble was killed in a December 2009 suicide attack on a graduation ceremony in Mogadishu, which also consumed the lives of 25 others including three cabinet ministers, three prominent journalists, doctors, students and university professors.

Somalia has been without a functioning central government for the past two decades during which several sports organizations of which football is the most active have been representing the lawless Horn of African nation in international sports gatherings.
