Somali Army chief of staff launches General Da'ud Cup 2018 edition

The Somali Army Chief of Staff, Major General Dahir Aden Elmi has launched the 2018 edition of General Da'ud Cup on Friday.


Somali Armed forces football club Horseed has beaten Jeenyo FC 2-1 in the opening match at Stadium Banadir, while Sahafi FC humiliated Jamhuuriya FC 7-2 in the other match played at the National Technical centre facility. Both matches kicked off at the same time at the two stadiums.


Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab who addressed at the launch ceremony of the event which is the second biggest sporting tournament in Somalia, thanked Somalia’s Armed Forces for sponsoring the prestigious competition. "Somali Football Federation has been organizing the General Da’ud Cup since 1972 and we have never missed to hold it even when insecurity in the country was much worse” SFF president said.



"I want to commend Somali Army Chief of Staff Major General Dahir Aden Elmi for his commitment to the development of football in Somalia” the president added before welcoming Army Chief of Staff to the platform.


Major General Dahir Aden Elmi, said that he is very much pleased to see Somalia’s football going up, adding that he witnesses new football progress every single year. "General Da’ud was the founding father of Somali Army, we always keep remembering him and I am promising that we as Somalia’s Armed Forces will continue sponsoring this big football competition in his remembrance” Major General Dahir Aden Elmi said.


"My particular thanks are due to Somali Football Federation president Abdiqani Said Arab, who is fully committed to football and as I am sure the president has led Somali football to a higher development.” Somali Arm Chief of Staff Major General Dahir Aden Elmi said before he was honored to kick the first ball of the competition.
