It is with sadness to inform you that we have lost Osman Jama Diraa, member of SFF executive committee and the chairman of Somali Football Federation referees committee, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen as he left from a mosque near his home in the capital Mogadishu, on Thursday evening.

"It was a very shocking experience to learn of the death of or beloved colleague” said Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab.

The late Diraa who formerly served as a FIFA referee has been SFF executive committee member since 2010. He was buried in Moalim Nur cemeteries in the southern outskirts of the capital on Friday. The reason for the brutal killing of our colleague is yet unclear, but investigations are under way” Somali Football said in a statement.

The late Diraa is the second high profile SFF official to be killed for the past five years. It was on April 4 2012 when former Somali FA president Said Mahmoud Nur was killed in a suicide explosion at the National theatre.
