Rwanda, Mali out of CAF Under -20 tourney

Rwanda and Mali are out of the CAF Under-20 tourney after losing in the group finals Saturday at Amahoro National Stadium and the Kigali Regional stadium respectively.


Ghana
beat Rwanda 2-0 while Cameroon beat Mali 3-0 in a game that determined teams qualifying for the tourney’s semis.

The match watched by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame among other dignitaries was more contested for with both teams displaying good game and talents ending the first half without a goal.

Ghana’s two goals were later scored by Ransford Osei. At the 68th minute Osei managed to beat Rwanda’s defense scoring the first goal after a hassle in the goal area.

After the goal, the Rwandan players lost confidence and control giving the goalkeeper a hard time. Though the Rwandans managed to get to Ghana’s defense line the non-coordinated game made them lose more chances to score.

And at 82nd minute Osei scored another goal, leaving the Rwandans playing a more non-professional game with too many fouls. Though Rwanda got many chances of penalties and corner kicks, the emotions were running high that they ended up pushing the ball over the cross bar.

Rwanda was supposed to score more goals than Ghana given the fact that both teams had same points but Ghana had more goals. Ghana’s victory makes Rwanda losing out on the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in the other match, Cameroon beat Mali 3-0 in a game that saw Cameroon in the lead right away. The three goals were scored in the first half and in the second half Cameroon only passed time without much effort.

Cameroon having had 3 points while Mali had Zero left Mali out of the tourney.

The Sunday games bring together South Africa against Egypt and Nigeria versus Ivory Coast at Amahoro National Stadium and Kigali Regional Stadium respectively.
