Somali football referees attend training seminar

At least 20 Somali first-division football referees have sat down for a three-day training course at the Hotel Jeddah in Mogadishu on Tuesday.


The Somali referees will be taught lessons about the new rules which exceeded to the international football refereeing principles during the three-day course which will last next Thursday.

 

President of Somali football federation Said Mahmoud Nur who delivered a short speech at the opening ceremony of this refreshment course said that this training course is part of more steps forward to develop football activities in the war-torn nation of Somalia.

 

The president said that his federation also intends to organize another course for the presidents and general secretaries of Somalia’s 25 football clubs during which they will learn lessons about management and sports administration.

 

Somali football federation president Said Mahmoud Nur also said that Somali football writers will be given a journalism training course early next year under the Somali football federation’s “Develop the press” program.

 

“We want Somali sports writers to be more skilled in football regulations so that is why we are going to hold a journalism training course for them” president Said Mahmoud Nur told at the opening ceremony of the refreshment course of Somali football referees on Tuesday.

 

Somali football federation first vice president Ali said Guled for his part said that even though Somalia is experiencing a difficulty period Somali football federation is committed to accomplishing its national duty so that Somalia can compete with the rest of nations in the world.

 

“I met with the national team members in Djibouti last week, they were more encouraged and I am hopeful that they will score a tangible success in the upcoming CECAFA senior challenge cup” Somali NOC first vice president Aden hajji Yabarow said at the ceremony.

 

Other dignitaries who spoke at the ceremony include: Somali NOC vice president of federations affairs Hajji Abdi Elmi warsame and Yusuf Gaal Ahmed member of Somali football federation executive committee.

 

Former international football referees Hassan Mohamed Mahmoud, Aweys Ahmed Jumaale and Hassan Sheylilah Adde are teaching at the three-day training course.

 

Mean while a Somali football staffer Ali Yusuf was killed and three others wounded after a stray mortar rounded on the compound of Somali football federation later on Tuesday during a heavy gunfire between Islamist insurgents and Somali government soldiers on Tuesday.
