Djibouti aims for bright future in football

It is just a year, since Mr. Souleiman Hassan Waberi became the president of Djibouti Football Federation. During the one-year period, President Waberi and his executive committee achieved to realise the country's long-existed dreams including the implementation of Djibouti's first ever beach soccer tournament and the creation of National beach soccer team.


The FDF held its General assembly here at the technical centre in the capital Djibouti during which at least 19 developmental agendas were approved by 72 delegates representing the FDF stakeholders from across the horn of African nation.

This was the first time to organize general assembly since 2007, a move that was seen as part of the development steps taken by President Souleiman according to some stakeholders who addressed at the General assembly on Sunday.



President Souleiman Hassan Waberi who addressed at the assembly thanked members of the steering committee of his federation, the stakeholders and all those who helped in the promotion of football in the country including the government and sponsoring companies.

"It was nearly 13 months ago when you elected me as the FDF president and during my post election addressed on that day, the revival of the general assembly was one of several things I pledged in front of you—we have achieved some of them and the rest are ahead of us and we are hopeful to accomplish as scheduled” President Souleiman Hassan Waberi said in his address on Sunday.

The president emphasised that some of the tangible progresses his federation achieved since he came to office on 10thof November 2012 include: Insuring cover 2,000 players and referees, signing a cooperative agreement with the National TV RDT which gives live coverage to all local football competitions, the start of women’s football development programs, the launch of a nationwide youth football development project and the launch of the country’s first ever beach soccer tournament.

During his address President Souleiman Hassan Waberi disclosed 10 more development programs which he intends to achieve for the next three years. The general assembly unanimously approved the development programs which include the preparation of a strong national beach soccer team which according to the strategy plan is expected to represent Djibouti in international competitions from 2015.

However Sunday’s General assembly was witnessed as guests by the representative of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports and representatives from some sponsor companies.
