Somali FA holds conclusion ceremony for the recently-ended schools tournament

The Somali Football Federation (SFF) and the country’s main Students’ Union on Sunday held a very huge ceremony to mark on the conclusion of the recently-ended Primary and Intermediate Somali schools football tournament.

During the ceremony, the trophy was presented to the Captain of the winner Jaber Bin Hayan School, while certificates football equipments and other important prizes were given to the schools principals, business companies, the best player, the top goal scorer and other individuals.

 

The ceremony attracted many high level individuals including government officials, mothers, fathers, school teachers, business community, students and fans.

 

Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab who addressed at the conclusion ceremony first thanked to GOD for the successful end to the schools tournament which was held in the insecure Mogadishu where it is more difficulty to organize such competition for children.

 

“I praise the Somali Students’ Union which assisted us in implementing the match and the schools principals who welcomed the constructive idea to promote football in schools” the Somali Football Federation Secretary General told the ceremony on Sunday.

 

He said that the SFF will send technical experts to the schools which have fields in order to equip and repair the fields so that students may be able to train during the break times, as participants of the ceremony welcomed the secretary’s remarks with clubbing.

 

“Here I am carrying a strong message for the parents and that is to educate children in football, because we know sport is also health as we can understand from the Somali song which says (A fit mind is in the physically strong body} so we can say sports is much more important for your health” the secretary General added.

 

He said that SFF has prepared talented coaches and drawn a special training program for the stars selected from the schools tournament who will take their training sessions on Thursdays and Friday, the Muslim weekends when they do not attend schools.

 

For his part Mahmoud Bule Mohamed, the secretary General for the Somali Students’ Union said that his Union  was very proud of the job has been done.


“Since football is the major sporting event in the whole world and in Somalia also, building football in schools is a great priority for us, because it will help the introduction and integration of school children throughout Somalia” Mr. Bule added.

 

Aisha Omar Geesdiir, who chairs the Somali women’s association who delivered a short speech at the closing ceremony, thanked the SFF and SSU for the great job they have done adding that Somali mothers will take their share in encouraging football in schools.


“Today many mothers are happy with their children being rewarded as the top goal scorer, the first and the second best players of the tournament and we share the happiness with those mothers” Aisha said.

 

The boss of Somali Students’ Union Mohamed Abdullahi Mahmoud who addressed at the conclusion ceremony said that since its establishment in November 2008 his association held many public activities including and football was one of the biggest of those activities.

 

“We stood to work for our people and we will continue such job what ever it takes to us” he said adding that Somali Football Federation and the Students’ Union had agreed to redouble their cooperation in football development in schools” Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Mahmoud added.

 

In the conclusion Somali football boss Mr. Said Mahmoud Nur announced the closure of the ceremony after he presented the first stage trophy to the captain of Jaber Bin Hayan school team. The same school won last year the soccer tournament held for High school students.
