The district of Guri-El in the central Somali region of Galgadud has hosted a football competition intended to mark on the precious occasion of July the 1st, which is annually commemorated as the country’s Independence Day.
According to the chairman, 32 prominent players were selected from the district’s football squads and then divided into two teams Hilaac and waaberi.
During the hotly-contested football match which attracted a big number of fans, the players by the name of Hilaac humiliated their Waaberi opponents by 5-3 and left with the beautiful trophy of
Mr. Shig Shigow who talked to reporters after the end of the match praised the General coordinator of Somali association of healthy care and education development {SAHED} Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Mahdi who he said had many times in the past assisted football activities in the region.
“Our region is peaceful and there are currently more football-related activities here and we are very grateful to Somali football federation for its constant support” the regional soccer boss stated.

The Somali football federation is implementing more activities in the region which is under the control of the none-militant moderate Islamists Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa with ties to Somali government.

With the province recovering from years of conflicts, the Somali football federation representative and the region’s football boss Abdirashid Aden Roble (Shig Shigow) said that more activities including trainings are due to be implemented in the region before the end of the year.
