Former national team captain takes over Somali U-17 soccer squad

Somali football federation (SFF) has appointed the former national team captain Yusuf Ali Nur as the new coach of Somali U-17 football team.


The SFF said in an emailed statement on Thursday that Yusuf Ali will be responsible for the Somali youngsters’ training from
May 27 2007, as the team is in preparations for the second round of African youth competition against Egypt after it defeated Kenya and qualified for the second title in April.

The statement said that former U 17 coach Mohamed Abdulle Farayare was also nominated as the Somali U 20 football team coach, which will participate in the CECAFA U 20 competition due in Eritrea in August this tear, while Hassan Farah Mohamed remained in his position as the goal keepers’ trainer.

“As many international competitions are waiting for us, we have decided to name these coaches and we hope them to successfully accomplish the national duties they have embraced” the SFF said in its statement Thursday.

Former captain Yusuf Ali was one of 30 young Somali football coaches who benefited from FIFA level coaching course held in Djibouti in August last year.

Somali football federation President Said Mahmoud Nur has congratulated the young coach on his appointment urging him to redouble his efforts, as he is carrying a big national responsibility from today.
