The president of the Somali Football Federation, Said Mahmoud Nur has named president of the world’s highest football governing body FIFA, Joseph S. Blatter as the “rescuer” of Somali football.

The president said in a press conference on Wednesday that without constant assistance from FIFA under Batter’s leadership, Somali football would be dead.

“Our precious FIFA boss allowed us to make Djibouti as our home and host international matches there, as we cannot host in our homeland, so this shows that Joseph S. Blatter is committed to promoting Somali football in every way possible, ” Said Mahmoud Nur said Wednesday’s tele-conference for  Mogadishu-based media outlets.

“We couldn’t reach this tangible victory without having encouragement and support from Blatter,” he said adding, that the SFF would build a historic monument in Blatter’s honour.

Meanwhile, the president praised the Somali National U 17 football squad for its victory over its Kenyan rivals during the first leg of CAF U 17 qualifying match held in Djibouti last Friday.

He promised bonus payments for the U 17 team if they again defeat the Kenyans in the return game between the two nations which is due to be held in Nairobi on April 24.

In the first round the Somali U 17 squad defeated Kenya 3-1 during a hotly-contested match at the Guled Stadium in Djibouti.
