Ocean Stars youngsters thrashed Sudan 2-0 at the ongoing CECAFA U-15 championship at Asmara National Stadium on Thursday afternoon to clinch Somalia's first win at the youth tourney.

Sudan suffered from an early shock, when striker Mahad Abdulkader Sheik netted the first goal for Somalia in the 10thminute. The Somali boys increased their attacks towards the Sudanese goal and as a result made their second goal in the 19thminute of the match scored by Abdullahi Omar salad who in the very beginning of the match showed his eagerness to score, but missed his target of what could have been a beautiful goal in the 4th minute of the match.

In the second half, Somalia continued to tighten their grip on their lead of the match and prevented the Sudanese side from scoring. "I am very much pleased that my boys have pocketed their first victory. This is a good starting point although we have lost in the first two matches, but this is a good exercise and confidence-building for our last group stage match” Somali’s head coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu Kwame told a post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab, lauded for Thursday’s victory and wished the boys to perform well in their last group stage match. "The youngsters are now in a stage of learning and experience-building. This competition is part of their preparation for future U-17 competitions in regional, continental and international levels and I am sure they will be able to do better” president Abdiqani Said Arab noted.
