The 3rd edition of Somali youth football league comes to a close

Somali football federation has concluded the 3rd edition of its youth league which has attracted FIFA support for the 3rd year running.


The 20th December youth football team was crowned the winners of the competition after collecting 51 points throughout the tournament. The 2018 edition of the Somali youth football league ran from 25th June 2018 to 27 December 2018 and gathered some 14 teams represented by 15-17 year old boys.


The president of Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab, thanked FIFA for its support which he said helped his federation to organization such a successful tournament.



"The first two editions of the competition gathered full financial and material support from FIFA, while this time FIFA donated us the beautiful equipment that we distributed to the all 14 teams in the competition” said the president who thanked FIFA for constantly supporting Somali Football Federation which he said depends on only assistance from FIFA.


"We are committed to the continuation of the youth tournament which has so far benefitted us a lot. One enough example is that for the first time in history Somalia has been able to reach CECAFA U-17 final in April this year and I am fully sure that without FIFA’s assistance we couldn’t make such a historic achievement” SFF president said during his closing speech on 27thof December.


"Somali youths have very high expectations for the youth league, as we are seeing an increasing number of boys who express their willingness to join the youth league "Somali Football Federation president, Abdiqani Said Arab, explained.
